Water Street Tampa, is a planned multi-billion dollar mixed use development in Tampa’s urban core. The development firm, Strategic Property Partners, is controlled by Jeff Vinik (Tampa Bay Lightning owner) and Bill Gates’ investment fund, Cascade Investment LLC. Water Street Tampa is surrounded by the Tampa Convention Center, Amalie Arena, Tampa Bay History Center, Florida Aquarium, and Tampa Riverwalk. Once complete, the project will include 9 million square feet of commercial space (up to 5,000 residential units, 2.6 million SF of office space, 500,000 SF of retail and up to 650 new hotel rooms). Water Street Tampa will alter Tampa’s skyline with the city’s first new office towers in nearly 25 years.
The University of South Florida recently announced that its new Morsani College of Medicine will be built within the Water Street Tampa development. The medical school should break ground this month, and will include an adjacent Heart Health Institute and medical office space.
Phase 1 will include a 500-room convention hotel, a full-service grocer, corporate office space, and a multi-family building. Ground breaking for this phase is slated for late 2017.
